Katrina Kaif is Akshay Kumar’s heroine in ‘Tees Maar Khan’

January 22nd, 2010 admin 4 comments

Who will be heroine of Farah Khan’s Akshay Kumar starrer Tees Maar Khan ? This question has been making news for quite a while now!  From Priyanka Chopra to Deepika Padukone to Sonam Kapoor,  rumour mills suggested a lot of names for the heroine of the film.  But it is Bollywood’s ‘barbie girl’ Katrina Kaif who will be romancing Akki in the film.

While the makers of the film are yet to confirm on the news, sources from the industry reveal that Farah and Akshay has almost zeroed in on  Kat for the film.  The hit track record of Akki-Kat jodi which includes super hits like Namastey London, Welcome and Singh is Kinng must have definitely worked in favour of the actress.

Akshaye Khanna will play an important role in the film. Rest of the cast is yet to be finalized. Tees Maar Khan will have Akshay Kumar playing a super-clever conman.

Tees Maar Khan is scripted by Farah Khan’s husband Shirish Kunder. The film will be produced by Shirish Kunder and Akshay Kumar’s banner Hari Om Productions.

November 18th, 2009 admin 6 comments

Akshay KumarThe director-actor jodi of Farah Khan and Shah Rukh Khan had created wonders at the box-office with films Main Hoon Na and Om Shanti Om. But, for her third directorial venture, Farah Khan has chosen Akshay Kumar over King Khan. The film, titled Tees Maar Khan is expected to go on the floors in March 2010.

Tees Maar Khan is scripted by Farah’s hubby Shirish Kunder. Shirish, who had earlier directed Akshay Kumar in Jan-E-Mann, was supposed to direct this film also. But later he decided to give the director’s cap to his wife. Tees Maar Khan, a typical Farah Khan film with lots of comedy, action and masala, will be produced by Shirish Kunder and Akshay Kumar’s banner Hari Om Productions. The heroine of the film is yet to be finalized.

Earlier, Happy New Year starring Shah Rukh Khan was supposed to be Farah’s third directorial venture. But the film got delayed as SRK will be busy with Ra.1 and Don 2 next year. So when her hubby approached her with Tees Maar Khan, she decided to go ahead with it.

Hmmm…let’s wait and see whether Farah-Akki jodi can create any wonders in the box-office!

Replaying Actions of the Fifties

August 4th, 2009 admin No comments

There is nothing wrong in calling the director-actor combination of Vipul Shah-Akshay Kumar  “The team with the Midas touch”. From Aankhen to Namastey London and Singh is Kinng, each one of their films met with  stupendous success at the box office. Now, the duo is getting ready with their next project titled Action Replay.

Action Replay is reported to be based on a Gujarati play of the same title. The film will bring together the pair of Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai after Khakee in 2004. Randhir Kapoor, who was last seen in Armaan in 2003, also  plays an important role in the film.

Bollywood has been in the rewind mode for quite some time now, taking the viewers back to the sixties and the seventies.  From Parineeta and Khoya Khoya Chand to the recently released Love Aaj Kal, many films took the viewers on a nostalgic ride. Action Replay also follows the flashback mode and is reported to be a time travel tale. The film is a period drama based on Mumbai in the fifties.

The director had earlier denied the rumours that Action Replay is a remake of the Oscar nominated Hollywood film, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Though not much about the film’s storyline is revealed, it is believed to be based on the concept of reverse aging, something that we saw in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. According to media sources, the film opens with a 62-year-old Akshay Kumar who is shown aging back to 26. On the other hand Aishwarya Rai will be seen sporting an old age look in the movie.

Contrary to the title, Action Replay will not have any hardcore action scenes. The film is expected to be an early 2010 release.

Akshay Kumar in 2009

July 6th, 2009 admin No comments

At the start of the year it seemed Akshay Kumar is all set to make 2009  his own at the box office. Akki, who was riding high on the success of ‘ Singh is Kinng’, was having much hyped  films to be released all throughout the year. But as the year is half over, things are not going as expected for Akshay.

Akshay’s first release of 2009, Nikhil Advani’s ‘Chandni Chowk to China’ was expected to set the theatres on fire . But for all the pre-release hype that surrounded the film, it became a disaster at the box office. Then Akki experimented with Nagesh Kukunoor’s ‘8X10 Tasveer’, but this film managed only to be a critical and commercial failure.

Two unexpected failures and the critics started slamming Akshay from all corners. All eyes were on his next release ‘Kambakkht Ishq’, the much hyped international love story with all those big names from Hollywood appearing in cameos. The makers of the film promoted it as an out and out entertainer  with Akki branded action and humour on a lavish scale.

The opening of ‘Kambakkht Ishq’ once again confirmed Akshay’s ability to be a crowd puller but ‘Kambakkht Ishq’ has managed only to get mixed to negative reviews and the word-of-mouth is also poor. Will this film survive or not, we will have to wait and see.

So far all his releases this year could not live upto the expectations. Let’s take a look at Akki’s forthcoming releases this year.  His confirmed upcoming films in 2009 are ‘Blue’ and ‘De Dana Dan’.

‘Blue’, from debutant Anthony D’Souza, is one of the most anticipated movies of 2009. This film brings Akshay back to his forte, action. ‘Blue’ with all those hyped underwater fight scenes could well be the first blockbuster for Akshay this year.

Akshay joins his favorite director Priyadarshan in ‘De Dana Dan’. This will be another comedy flick from Akki-Priyan duo and could bring smiles back on the face of Akshay fans.

Also there is ‘Action Replay’ with Vipul Shah, though not confirmed could be a late 2009 release.

With all these big films gearing up for release, Akshay Kumar could make the latter half of 2009 his own at the box office.
