3 Idiots, Three Idiots

3 Idiots is a comedy of ideas directed by Rajkumar Hirani. The film stars Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Kareena Kapoor and Boman Irani in pivotal roles. Kajol will make a special appearance in the movie.

3 Idiots is loosely based on Chetan Bhagat's bestseller 'Five Point Someone - What not to do at IIT'. The film tells the story of three friends whose dismal grade point averages at their college influencing their friendship, romance and career choices.

Two friends (Madhavan and Sharman Joshi) embark on a quest for a lost buddy - the irrepressible free thinker Rancho (Aamir Khan), who in his unique way, touched and changed their lives during their hostel days. The story swings between Rancho's romance with the spirited Pia (Kareena Kapoor), and his clash with an oppressive mentor, Viru Sahastrabudhhe (Boman Irani). And then one day, suddenly, Rancho vanishes....

3 Idiots is produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra under the banner of Vidhu Vinod Chopra Productions. Rajkumar Hirani and Abhijat Joshi have written the screenplay for the film. Shantanu Moitra has scored the music with lyrics penned by Swanand Kirkire.

3 Idiots is scheduled for release on December 25, 2009.
