Acclaimed director Shaji N Karun, whose previous works include films like Piravi and Vaanaprastham is back with his latest film titled Kutty Shranku. Featuring three time National Award winning actor Mammootty in the title role, the film has Kamalinee Mukherjee, Padmapriya and Meenakumari as the female leads. Saikumar, Siddique and Suresh Krishna play supporting roles in the film.

Kutty Srank has already been screened at Pusan International Film Festival- Oct '09, Montreal World Film Festival- Sept '09, Mumbai Film Festival – Oct '09 and the International Film Festival of India- Nov '09.

Kutty Shranku is the first association of Mammootty with Shaji N Karun. The film tells the story of a boat driver called Shranku (Mammootty) from the perspectives of three women.

One day the dead body of Shranku is found by the police on a beach. Then the three women turn up, each claiming Shranku to be her husband. It is then understood that Shranku is married to the three women, in three different places he visits, though each one is unaware of the presence of the other two.

The three women have been presented in the backdrop of three different seasons, religions and geographical locations. One is a wealthy woman who wants to become a Buddhist nun. The second is a woman who acts in a traditional Christian play with Kutty Shranku and is later accused of murder. The third is a gentle, mute woman who, it appears, is carrying Kutty Shranku's baby.

As the film is presented through the views of women, Shaji N Karun has opted for a lady as the Director of Photography. Anjali Shukla, who has assisted acclaimed cinematographer Santosh Sivan, comes behind the camera for Kutty Shranku. This is also the very first Malayalam film to be shot by a female cinematographer.

Story of the film is by P.F.Mathews. Issac Thomas Kottakapalli has scored the music for the film.

Kutty Shranku, distributed by Reliance Big Pictures, will be released on July 23, 2010.
